Maldives to free 11 Indian fishermen
The fishermen had put out to sea off the Kerala coast last week and were to return ashore on February 25.

New Delhi: Maldivian government has agreed to release the 11 Indian fishermen apprehended by its Navy for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line.

"With timely intervention from the High Commission of India, the government of Maldives has agreed to release the 11 Indian fishermen," an official in the Ministry of External Affairs said.

MEA Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin had on Thursday promised a "swift and quick" resolution to the issue. Officials in Chennai had said the fishermen were from Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu.

The fishermen had put out to sea off the Kerala coast last week and were to return ashore on February 25.
