BANGALORE: It is not new that some manage to get fake death certificates. However, here is a curious case. G N Narahari (31), got his death certificate as a ‘surprise’ and it was issued by a medical officer of K R Hospital, Mysore. On July 10, 2010, Narahari, a Group D employee at Police Training School at Yelahanka, had gone to meet his wife Poornima in Mysore. As he refused to get a transfer to Mysore, his in-laws allegedly assaulted him and he received injuries on his face and limbs. As the incident took place in Vijayanagar police station limits in Mysore, the same night he went to the police station to file a complaint. But the police asked him to bring a medical certificate as it was a medico-legal case.Later, he went to K R Hospital and took treatment for his injuries and returned to the city. Upset with the attitude of the police, he filed a case against errant policemen with Lokayukta agency. The case was transferred to the Mysore Lokayukta office. The sleuths of the agency started the investigation of the case and asked the Vijayanagar police to submit a report on the case. In turn, the police asked for a medical certificate from the K R Hospital authorities and surprisingly the hospital issued a certificate to the police saying that Narahari who was admitted to the hospital at 1.15 am on July 11 for treatment of injuries, succumbed at 10.45 pm on July 12. The same was submitted to the Lokayukta police by the Vijayanagar police.Narahari claims that though he was admitted on the time mentioned by the hospital authorities in the certificate, he went to the police station in the morning.“Even then, the police did not give me acknowledgment and they just told me that the case number was 161/2010. It was found later that it was related to a robbery case when the Lokayukta police investigated,” he said. And the shocker came when he received some copies related to the case from the Lokayuktha. “I was astonished to see the medical certificate that said I am dead. However, I hope I will justice from the Lokatyuktha investigation,” he added.
