SONEPUR: One person died and six have been hospitalised in a critical condition after they consumed liquor in Naktamunda village of Julunda panchayat under Dungripalli police limits in Sonepur district on Tuesday.One Jayaram Kalse (50) died in the wee hours of Tuesday. Though he was being rushed to Barpali Hospital after he complained of uneasiness, he died on way.The six other affected men were first rushed to Barpali Hospital and later shifted to VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla after their condition deteriorated.They have been identified as Harishchandra Mahaling (40), Tikelal Kalse (30), Gapa Rout (23), Prakash Pandey (22), Jaylal Kalse (27) and Tikelal Rout (22). The condition of Tikelal Kalse and Harishchandra is stated to be critical.Sources said the victims, all daily wagers, had gone along with others for laying the RCC Roof for the house of one Kapurchand Bariha in Julunda on Sunday.After the work, the labourers consumed liquor and took along with them more liquor besides a goat which they feasted on at the house of one Ratu Pandey in Naktamunda village late on Sunday night.On Monday morning they complained of uneasiness and were treated by a village quack.As their condition did not improve and they reported severe headache and stomach pain besides blurred vision, they were rushed to the hospital.Lachipur Outpost Police seized the body of Jayaram for autopsy.Excise Superintendent Prafulla Patnaik visited the village on Tuesday and District Collector Gagan Bihari Swain said an appropriate action would be taken after the autopsy report is received.
