DHENKANAL: It’s boom time for vendors in Dhenkanal with a large number of people thronging the famous Laxmi Puja here. From SHGs to rural vendors to big businessmen, everyone seems to be cashing in on the festive mood.As many as 5,000 vendors have set up kiosks in the town since beginning of the Puja. They are selling everything from toys, garments, plastic home utility items to leather products.Besides interior areas of the district, vendors have come in from states like Gujarat, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Jammu and Kashmir and have set up stalls on the 5-km stretch from Korian bypass to College bypass.Fast food joints are doing brisk business with menu like ‘bara’. People are also visiting the ongoing Pallishree Mela at the stadium where 200 SHGs from West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and from across the State have set up stalls. And most of these SHGs are selling herbal and home-made products like juices, squash and pickles. “The SHGs have so far made a business of ` 63 lakh,” said District Supply and Marketing chief executive Nigam Das.
