Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi witnessed bullets fly in a robbery attempt at a high-end London hotel at around 12 midnight. That is what comes through a string of his tweets. "The incident took place in London at the Top Hotel at 23:23 Pm. Luckily no one I saw injured. Staff were immediately evacuating us," he wrote.
"Had a near death experience I thought when I was sitting with a few friends at a Top Hotel bar. All of a sudden we heard shooting like…" read another, continuing later: "With Bombs going off and smoke Everywhere. The staff were well trained to escort us to the back of the house and out to safety...."
"Apparently this was pre-planned robbery by 3 black Men who came in thru the front of the hotel to steal the jewels in the show cases," he continued.
"At first I thought maybe an electricity panel had blown. But then the sound of shots were distinctive and then there was gas all over," Modi wrote.
"We were then taken out of the hotel thru the back kitchen Area. We just decided 2 stay away & went over 2 a friends house right next door," he added.
It crossed Modi's mind for a fraction of a second that this could be a 26/11-type attack. "I for a second pictured what happened on 26/11 in my mind in Mumbai. But fortunately it was just a robbery with no injuries to people," he tweeted.
"No idea if they got away or were caught as were escorted to the opposite side of them coming in. Still no news channel is carrying it," his next tweet read.
The incident has definitely left Modi rattled: "...Definitely shaken and a little disturbed that this could be happening in middle of London at midnight in Knightsbridge......"
But that said, he won't stop patronising the hotel, he said. "I will continue to visit the Hotel. To me it's the best hotel in this country and run by well trained staff," he tweeted before possibly retiring at the end of an eventful day.
