Kolkata: The AMRI Hospital management on Saturday said it would set up a five-member inquiry committee into the fire, that led to the loss of 88 lives, and claimed its radio therapy department was safe.
"Atomic Energy Regulatory Board and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre have inspected the place and declared it to be safe," AMRI Hospital Vice-President S Upadhyay said in a release in Kolkata.
Upadhyay claimed no hazardous material was stored in the basement. "The fire department will also investigate the matter and we all are awaiting the outcome," said Upadhyay.
He said the hospital would set up a five-member inquiry committee soon to inquire into the fire.
Claiming no staff member of AMRI fled after the fire, he said two of them died showing exemplary courage in saving many lives on Friday.
"Several others from our staff members who were present on that dreadful morning, have been discharged with minor injuries," Upadhyay said.
He said the situation at the hospital was under control with 27 doctors and 69 nurses in attendance.
