Kochi: Rape accused acquitted after victim turns hostile
The case pertains to alleged rape of a woman belonging to the SC/ST community in 2004.

Kochi: The newly formed Additional District and Sessions court, for trying cases related to sexual atrocities against women and children, on Tuesday acquitted an accused of rape charges after the victim turned hostile. The special court, which was inaugurated by Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir on Sunday here, delivered its first verdict on Tuesday.

The case pertains to alleged rape of a woman belonging to the SC/ST community in 2004. The first accused had been acquitted earlier. The trial against the second accused, Manoj, who had allegedly raped the victim in a lodge, was completed on Monday and was posted for pronouncing the judgement.

The victim, who is now married and has two children, however, turned hostile. At least 30 cases from various trial courts have been sent to the special court.
