KOCHI: Spreading its wings, consultancy firm Kitco is on a contract-bagging spree.So far, the Kochi-based company has bagged various contracts from consultancy services to set up low-cost airports and to renovate the existing airports economically across the country.Kitco, formerly Kerala Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organisation Ltd, has a separate aviation division. At present, it is engaged in renovating the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Udan Akademi, Rai Bareli, construction of an international terminal at Karipur Airport, Rajamundry Airport in Andhra Pradesh and various development projects of the Cochin International Airport Ltd. “The project of Karipur airport, includes providing engineering consultancy services for the construction of a new international arrival block, internal modification of existing international passengers’ terminal building and associated works. Pre-construction works on this project have begun,” the Kitco authorities said. Expansion of facilities at the Indira Gandhi National Udan Academy, includes preparation of conceptual drawing for parking and maintenance hanger and associated facilities, residential quarters for staff, hostel for trainees, preparation of architectural, civil and structural design and drawings, preparation of engineering specifications for building, detailed estimates and rate analysis.Rajamundri project comprises a master plan for the new passenger terminal at Rajamundri Airport, preparation of architectural, civil and structural designs, design of internal and external electrification including substation, design of HVAC system, fire alarm, fire fighting and security systems, design of communication system. Kitco has so far built six airports in different parts of the country, including Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, Pant Nagar and Visakhapatnam airports. “Kitco was also involved in building of the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL),” said Kitco managing director Cyriac Davies. It was Cyriac who designed the terminal building of Nedumbassery airport in the traditional Kerala style.Kitco is expecting the assignments of the proposed airports at Anakkara in Idukki and Aranmula in Alappuzha. It has also submitted the tender for development of airports in Jharkhand. The successful overseas assignments, include electrical installation at the King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah, and development of Salalah International Airport, Oman.
