Key witness testifies in Cyanide Mohan case

BANGALORE: A crucial witness on Tuesday testified to having seen the Mohan Kumar step out of the lodging with Anita at wee hours and returned all alone.M Kantharaju, a cashier at Sanman lodging in Hassan, deposing before the Fast Track court said Mohan Kumar identifying himself as ‘Sudhakar Kulal’ and Anita as his ‘wife’ had rented a room. On the following morning he returned all alone and vacated the room. During cross examination by the accused Mohan Kumar, Kantharaju insisted that the accused himself had escorted the police and had shown the room where he and Anita had stayed. Manjunath who runs a canteen in Hassan testified being a witness when police conducted a ‘mahajar’ of the arrival register in Sanman lodging. Another witness Charan Kumar also testified on having been a witness when Bantwal police recovered pouches of cyanide tablets from Mohan.During cross examination of Mohan Kumar, Charan also rejected the accused’s defence statement that his statement was recorded on October 30 and not on October 2, 2009.
