Karnataka: 'Made Snanaa' to stop in 2 months
Made Snana or the ritual of rolling over used plantain leaves is practised in various temples.

Bangalore: Bowing to public resentment against "Made Snana", or the ritual of rolling over used plantain leaves, which is being practised in various temples, the state government has decided to ban the ritual within two months.

Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda made a suo-motu statement on the ban in Kukke Subrahmanya Temple in response to a query raised by BJP member Thontadarya during Question Hour in the Legislative Council.

The CM added that he has already started discussions with all stakeholders. Thontadarya demanded an end to the practice of closing the Nanjanagud temple whenever anybody in and around the town dies. "Thousands of devotees from distant places visiting the temple will be put into trouble," he added.

To this, the chief minister replied that he will refer the issue to the newly-constituted state level Dharmik Parishat.
