New Delhi: John Abraham left for US on Tuesday, to attend the Oscar Function, where his film Water has been nominated as the Canadian entry in the Best Foreign Films category.

What’s interesting was the revelation by John that he would be accompanied by his mother to the gala function—a royal ignore to long-time girlfriend Bipasha who would otherwise have been keen to walk hand-in hand with John on the red carpet.

“I am going to the Oscars with Mom to make my luck stronger with her blessings,” John was quoted by a website, who left for America with mother Feroza late on Tuesday night.

On being asked if Bipasha would also be there, he said: “No, she is busy with her work, and why do you want her to come with me?”

Deepa Mehta’s Water is in English and is a commentary on Indian society at the turn of the 20th century set in Benares.

John plays a Gandhian from a rich family, who wants to marry a widow against the will of his family. The star said he was excited to face the media in Hollywood. "No special preparations from my side for the media interaction at the awards," he said. "I hope they are as good as the Indian media!”

John said he would brush up the way he looks. “I am planning to wear something designed by Rocky S and Manish Malhotra. My look will be completely Indian and I've set aside two pairs of clothes for two events. I have also trimmed my hair and I will be seen there with thin beard!” John said.

Three Indian films that made it to the final nominations of the Oscars till date are: Mother India, Salaam Bombay and Lagaan. John said it was his desire to represent India at the Oscars in a Hindi movie. Though he is there to represent a film that tells an Indian story but wins credits for Canada.
