J&K: Violence breaks out in Ramban after BSF opens fire, 4 killed
The sources said that the BSF has been claiming that it was the state police which had fired at the crowd to control them.

Ramban: Four people were killed and 25 other have been injured after violence broke out in Ramban area of Jammu and Kashmir. The violence has been reportedly triggered after the Border Security Force jawans on Thursday opened fire in self-defence on angry locals who had attacked their camp in Ramban.

The locals alleged that the BSF jawans had had an altercation with a local imam on Wednesday night. The sources said that the BSF has been claiming that it was the state police which had fired at the crowd to control them.

Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has promised action against excessive force and has ordered a probe in the incident. But in the Chenab valley and Maisuma, people have taken to the streets in protest

"I sincerely regret the unfortunate incident, which took place early this morning in Ramban. The loss of life in this incident is particularly sad. I offer, my deep condolence to bereaved families," said Home Minister.

Shinde also ordered an inquiry to be conducted without any loss of time to ascertain the circumstances leading to firing. "I assure any use of excessive force or irresponsible action shall be dealt with strictly. I appeal to the people to maintain peace and normalcy to be restored," he said.
