Bangalore: A day after the Karnataka High Court refused to grant her bail, former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa is likely to approach the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
The Karnataka High Court had on Tuesday refused her plea saying that there was no sufficient ground for awarding conditional bail to her. The HC cancelled her plea even as the prosecution said that it had no objection to a conditional bail.
Jayalalithaa has been behind bars since the September 27 after being convicted in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case. She has been sentenced to 4 years in jail along with a fine of Rs 100 crore in cash.
Valiant protests have been taking place around Tamil Nadu against the leader's arrest. Many of her supporters even committed suicide in protest and some even died of cardiac arrest.
AIADMK allegedly had also put up posters threatening to hold Kannadigas residing in Tamil Nadu hostage if Jayalalithaa was not granted bail in the case.
The Bangalore Police stepped up the security around the central jail on Tuesday in view of the threats.
The current Tamil Nadu CM Panneerselvam issued a press release asking AIADMK supporters to desist from protests and bandhs after bail was denied to their chief J Jayalalithaa.
He also blamed political rivals for spreading rumours about lack of law and order in Tamil Nadu. "Everything is under control," his statement said.
