New Delhi: The Environment ministry gave the conditional clearance for the Jaitapur nuclear power plant in Maharashtra on Sunday.
Announcing the decision, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said that the clearance for Jaitapur project comes with 35 conditions and safeguards.
Ramesh said economic growth, fuel mix diversification, global diplomacy and environmental protection were the key objectives while giving the go-ahead.
"Nuclear energy is a cleanest option of energy. We are happy to give environmental clearance to Jaitapur power plant," said Ramesh.
