I-specialist Jaya to blame for fall
Jaya's failure in knowing problems of people was responsible for AIADMK's debacle, Tamil Nadu's business lobby said.

Madurai: The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TNCCI) on Thursday put the blame of AIADMK's loss in the Assembly polls on party supremo J Jayalaithaa's lack of interaction with the people.

"The failure of the chief minister in interacting with people and in knowing about their problems was responsible for AIADMK's debacle," TNCCI said.

"Jayalalithaa took all the decisions by herself without consulting the affected people," Chamber President S Rethinavelu said, adding, "A pro-active chief minister should be accessible."

The protracted delay in solving the genuine problems of trade and industry in the state earned displeasure of the sector.

"The Trade and Industry sector expected the Value Added Tax to be introduced in Tamil Nadu. But it was not done. The announcement of the chief minister that VAT would not be introduced in the state shocked the traders and she had to lose the support of trade and industry," Rethinavelu said.

DMK leader M Karunanidhi had announced that almost all the demands of the sector would be met and was evidently more popular with the business lobby.

He had also announced that the resale tax would be scrapped.

He hoped that under the leadership of Karunanidhi the state would attract substantial industrial investment and it would occupy, number one spot in the country in all the spheres of development.

Rethinavelu hoped that the State and the Central governments would work together in implementing various projects, including Nanguneri Special Economic Zone and transformation of Madurai Airport into an international airport and a four-way project.
