BIJAPUR : Announcing that works related to Rehabilitation and Reconstruction under Upper Krishna Project (UKP) would be implemented on priority, Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda said, a high-level committee would be set up for providing succour to the people of Bagalkot and Bijapur districts. The CM told reporters at Alamatti dam on Monday that rehabilitation and reconstruction works were significant for the implementation of the irrigation works under UKP.He said that the lift irrigation projects at Mulawad, Gutti Basavanna and Malabad would not delayed under stage III of UKP. Certain legal clearances were needed for their implementation, he said, assuring that he would meet the Apex Court lawyer representing the state.Gowda admitted that scanty rain created an apprehension of drought. There would be a problem of migration of agriculture labourers from the twin districts of Bijapur and Bagalkot. The only consolation was that at 50 per cent sowing was possible in Bijapur district. Asked what should the agriculture labourers do, he said that he had instructed the district authorities to take up works under the NREGS to check migration.On if the state government was thinking of raising funds through issue of bonds, he said that it was not yet decided whether it should be done through bonds or external borrowing. The matter would be cleared by year-end, he said.Water Resource Minister Basvaraj Bommai, Heavy Industries minister Murugesh Nirani and Minor Irrigation Minister Govind Karjol accompanied Chief Minister Gowda during 'Bagina' to Krishna.
