The 55th International Deaf Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the alumnus of the Little Flower Higher Secondary School of the Deaf and other differently-abled people on the school premises, here on Sunday.

The 55th International Deaf Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the alumnus of the Little Flower Higher Secondary School of the Deaf and other differently-abled people on the school premises, here on Sunday.

A silent dance and drama programme was staged, as part of the event. Around 55 struggling differently-abled entrepreneurs were presented with tools for their businesses. Hearing and speech-impaired tailors, artists, dancers and other businessmen were presented with sewing kits and paint supplies to supplement their business. V R Venkatesan, editor of The Silence Brotherhood magazine, who organised the function, said that the money for the supplies were collected among themselves.

Students who had passed out from Little Flower school and other hearing-impaired entrepreneurs also participated. V Swaminathan, president of the Tamil Nadu State Federation for the Deaf (TNFSD) was the chief guest, while E K Jamal Ali, general secretary of TNSFD and M Sakthi, president for the Association for the Deaf, Chennai were the guests of honour at the event.
