The CCB sleuths have arrested four persons who cheated mobile phone service providers to the tune of a few lakh rupees. Police said the accused used to divert international calls at local call rates.
The accused are Eshwarchandra Vidyasagar, 34, Praveen, 27, Ramarao alias Pillu Venkataraman, 51, all natives of Andhra Pradesh and G N Sapthadri, 30, of BTM Layout.
They were arrested at a house in Cheluvaiah Garden in Ramamurthynagar, where they were running the illegal business. According to the police, the accused had learnt how to generate international calls as local calls. They used to divert international calls at local call rates with the help of an online illegal telephone exchange company, Speed Flow, which allows cellphone users to make international calls at local call rates. The accused had purchased Tata Docomo sim cards in bulk and had distributed it to some companies and individuals who made international calls frequently. By installing FCT box, quantum, modem and other devices, they gave route to make international calls at local call rates.
“All the accused have just completed II PUC and two of them were Tata Docomo sim card dealers earlier. Using its unlimited pack offers, the accused purchased sim cards in bulk and distributed them to their customers. They were running the illegal business, which is against the rules of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI),” the police added.
The police have recovered about 800 sim cards, FCT box, modem and other material worth about `20 lakh. Ramamurthynagar police registered a case.
