BANGALORE: The High Court is expected to pass interim orders on a government notification making speed governors mandatory for all public transport vehicles, including goods vehicles in the state, on Wednesday. The court is hearing a petition filed by the Federation of Karnataka Lorry Owners and Agents Associations challenging the notification. The petitioners stated that  the notification issued on September 17, under Section 188 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, seeks to make speed governors mandatory in all transport vehicles by June 30, 2012.According to this rule, vehicles can reach a maximum speed of 65 kmph only. The speed governors defy logic and what is the use of expressways and six-lane roads if the government wants to control speed, they argued.Senior Counsel for the petitioners Jaikumar S Patil stated that this will affect the movement of inter-state vehicles. Justice S Abdul Nazeer reserved the interim order for Wednesday.
