CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Southern Districts Industrial Corridor (TNSDIC) linking seven districts and Coimbatore-Salem Industrial Corridor is set to be rolled out soon.The consultant for the project, Mahindra Consulting Engineers, submitted a final draft to the State government earlier this month.The TNSDIC project, which will cover more than 475 km approximately, will require infrastructure development worth `40,105 crore and would generate industrial investment worth `1.90 lakh crore. It will also create 18 lakh jobs, B Suresh, president and chief executive officer of Mahindra Consulting Engineers, told Express on Tuesday.The TNSIDC project would cover Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Tirunelveli, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari districts. It will have three manufacturing and business investment regions (MBIR) in Madurai, Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli besides a Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR) in Ramanathapuram, according to the report accessed by Express.The project would also have two knowledge hubs in Tirunelveli and Madurai besides three special tourism investment zones, including Madurai, Sivaganga and Kanyakumari. It would also have agri-business investment regions in Virudhunagar and Thoothukudi.The project sphere of influence will be on National Highway 45 (103 km) from Madurai to Thoothukudi, National Highway 7 (327 km) from Madurai to Kanyakumari and National Highway 7 (47 km) from Tirunelveli to Thoothukudi. The corridor will also have manufacturing and business industrial areas.Suresh said these corridors won’t run into the existing cities and will not create any ecological problem. “Farmlands will not be affected and the project will not create any ecological problem,” he added.Suresh said that the Coimbatore-Salem Industrial Corridor, also known as CTENS, will cover Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur, Namakkal and Salem. The total investment on infrastructure expected in this project is Rs 14,711 crore while it would generate an industrial investment of Rs 43,188 crore, the report added.The cost on infrastructure is less as the existing infrastructure has to be upgraded and modernized.The corridor will figure in 150 km and consists of an MBIR each in Salem and Coimbatore besides agri-business investment regions in Namakkal and Erode. It would also have knowledge hubs in Coimbatore and Salem besides special tourism investment zone in Erode.The corridor would provide jobs to 11 lakh people, Suresh added.
