Ujjain/Allahabad: Entry to the sanctum sanctorum of Madhya Pradesh's world famous Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain has been prohibited in view of solar eclipse occurring today, on Monday January 26.

Temple administrator Shubhkarn Sharma said thousands of pilgrims would take holy dip in the river Kshipra during the solar eclipse and the sanctum sanctorum would be closed from the security point of view.

He said the devotees could see the 'Shivlinga' outside the barricade near Nandi Grih. The partial solar eclipse would be seen from the south-eastern India, he added.

Meanwhile, high security arrangements are put in place in Allahabad in view of the bathing festival of 'Mauni Amavasya,' coinciding with the Republic Day celebrations today.

Thousands of devotees are expected to take a dip at the 'Holy Sangam'. The festival is known for the highest congregation of faithful at the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati as water at the Sangam is believed to be endowed with the quality of "amrit" (nectar) on the day.

This year, the rush is expected to be higher as the Amavasya is falling on a Monday, that is today called 'Somavati Amavasya.' Taking a dip at the Sangam is believed to be doubly auspicious due to the solar eclipse today.

Around the Sangam, where annual religious congregation of Magh Mela is underway, about 25,000 police personnel and other security forces are deployed, Inspector General of Police Surya Kumar Shukla said.

CCTVs have been installed at all vital points in the Mela area, spreading across over 1,000 acres.
