New Delhi: The Centre on Wednesday told the Delhi High Court that it has sought the IIT's help to find a way to curb noise pollution near Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport to ensure a quieter environment for residents near the airport.

Additional Solicitor General (ASG) AS Chandhoke told a division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna that it has asked the IIT Delhi and experts to evolve a mechanism to curtail noise pollution near the airport.

The law officer said the experts will explore various possibilities to reduce the noise level caused due to flights, specially during night.

The bench asked the ASG to file a detailed affidavit on the Centre's efforts to bring down the noise level near the airport and slated the matter for next hearing on November 9.

The court had earlier, during the hearing on a plea by Vasant Kunj residents against the noise pollution, ticked off the government saying it has failed to take any step to address the issue.

The residents had pointed out that even the doctors at the Spinal Injury Centre, adjacent to the airport, get disturbed while operating the patients due to the flight movements.
