BANGALORE: Highlighting the fact that the education sector in Karnataka has been oblivious to the advantages of e-governance, Minister for Higher Education Dr V S Acharya said that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will help create a ‘common repository of digitised content’ which can be accessed by all higher education institutions at a ‘nominal cost’.Speaking at the inauguration of a one-day seminar on information science and technology on Tuesday, he said that ICT will also help students from remote and rural areas access ‘quality education’. He emphasised the importance of networking for students in rural areas and also spoke of the possibility of distance learning through internet. Applauding the council’s initiative to hold this seminar, he urged the teachers in technical institutes to update their curricula in a manner that helps use technology effectively.The seminar saw the participation of Dr Y N Srikant and Dr Jayant Haritsa from the Indian Institute of Science, Dr Anil Kumar from Future Group and Dr Srinath and Dr Ramakanth from RVCE.
