HYDOURITE 2012, the 100 day celebration of the spirit of Hyderabad came to an end this weekend with the final event, Fantasy Jazz and Country Music concert ‘Kalinga Express’.
The Express presented an interesting combination of music from different genres with Jaywant Naidu on the Hawaiian Guitar from Hyderabad, Shaukat Khan on Saxophone from Kolkata, Pandit Kalinath Mishra on Tabla from Mumbai, Giridhar Udupa on Ghatam from Bangaluru, Pavan on Drums and Gopa Khan on Khartaal from the Manganiar musicians of Rajasthan.
The first piece for the evening was a composition based on the common evening raga - Raag Bhupali with Jaywant Naidu starting off and being joined by the other artists. The second composition was the immensely popular and versatible raga in contemporary music, Raag Jog.
This was followed by a Folk tune in Raga Mishra Sivaranjani and another piece in Raga Misra Bilawal. Music aficionados were then treated to a jugalbandi between the two established percussionists - Pandit Kalinath Mishra on Tabla and Giridhar Udupa on Ghatam.
The concert ended with a presentation of a medley of two songs - ‘Suhana safar aur yeh mausam haseen’ and ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’.
