As many as 65 houses were gutted in a fire at Pure Nidhan Kuwar village in Gauriganj area of Amethi, police said on Tuesday.
The fire broke out at the village in Jamo police station area on Monday evening. According to Jamo police station SHO Harishankar Tiwari, the fire started from embers at a dump yard and later spread to the houses.
A number of fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control, the SHO said.
Meanwhile, Congress's Amethi unit on Tuesday distributed food and other necessary stationery items to the affected families.
Congress district president Yogendra Mishra said on the instruction of sitting MP Rahul Gandhi they handed over the items to the families.
