How A Hoax Bomb Threat Uncovered Bangladeshi Man's Shocking Lies to His Wife

A recent arrest made by the Delhi Police led to the revelation of a hoax bomb threat email, a husband’s deception and heavy debt. When cops arrested a 29-year-old Bangladeshi national from Kolkata for allegedly sending a hoax bomb threat mail, they found that the accused did so to conceal his lies to his wife.

According to an India Today report, accused Mohd Nazrul Islam confessed that he deliberately sent the mail to cancel the flight and prevent his brother-in-law from coming to the city.

The accused’s motive was to avoid exposing his lies to his wife, whom he had deceived by falsely claiming to be pursuing a PhD in the US. Unfortunately, he resorted to such extreme measures instead of being honest.

In the hoax threat mail, the accused claimed that there was a bomb on a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Kolkata which was scheduled to take off on February 27.

The email sent to Delhi’s Airport Duty Manager claimed that a passenger onboard a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Kolkata was carrying explosives. As per the guidelines, a full emergency was declared at the Delhi Airport.

A meticulous search of the said flight was conducted which revealed that the bomb threat was a hoax.

After the search, a complaint was filed with the Delhi Police and a case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

During the probe, the sender’s email ID was discovered and the police found that it was created an hour before the threat mail was sent. The investigators then traced the source of the email to a Wi-Fi connection installed at a hotel in Kolkata and a breakthrough was achieved after examination of the guest list.

After a thorough investigation, the police discovered that one guest named Amardeep Kumar had flown in from Delhi to meet his brother-in-law, Mohd Nazrul Islam, who had been staying at the hotel for quite some time.

Although Nazrul Islam had wiped the history from his phone, the Delhi Police, in collaboration with the Cyber Police in Kolkata and an STF team, managed to confirm that the hoax mail was indeed sent from his phone.

Nazrul Islam eventually confessed that he sent the email in an attempt to prevent his brother-in-law from coming to Kolkata to meet him.

The accused then revealed that he was a Bangladeshi national and had completed a course at a university in Punjab where he befriended a woman named Soniya.

Nazrul Islam said he went back home after the course was completed but reconnected with Soniya in 2020 through social media. He lied to her that he was pursuing a PhD from the US and that he had received a visa.

The couple then tied the knot on April 2023, but Soniya started getting suspicious of Nazrul soon afterwards and began to insist he take her to the US.

Soniya then decided to send her brother Amardeep Kumar to check in on Nazrul Islam. It was to prevent Kumar from arriving in Kolkata that Nazrul Islam sent the hoax mail, said police.

To stop Amardeep from meeting his wife, Nazrul sent a hoax bomb threat.
