Help of Central forces to be sought

The State Police on Wednesday sought the help of Central forces to contain the unrest in Kannur following the arrest of CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan.

The decision was taken in an emergency meeting convened by Director-General of Police Jacob Punnoose on Wednesday evening. The police have sent a communication to the CRPF authorities in this regard.

The help of Central police forces was sought as the protests by the CPM supporters cannot be controlled by the state police alone, the DGP said.

Kannur district has been witnessing sporadic incidents of violence after the arrest of Jayarajan in the Shukkoor murder case.
