State Health Minister Dr V S Vijay continued his drive to ‘clean-up’ State-run hospitals, inspecting the Institute of Child Health without prior warning, on Friday.
After suspending nine people, including two doctors at the Kasturba Gandhi GH where the disfigured body of a 11-day old girl in neo natal ICU sparked outrage, Vijay has begun inspecting all major GHs.
“The chief minister has directed me to inspect all the 12 government hospitals in the city and submit a review report immediately,” said Dr Vijay.
Vijay visited the kitchen and the mortuary at ICH, giving instructions for clean up.
Accompanied by Dr V Kanagasabai, dean of MMC to which ICH is attached, the minister reprimanded hospital authority for hoarding tubelights without installing.
Having served as a government orthopedician, the minister wanted to inspect the ortho ward.
When he arrived there, apparently no duty doctor was around, and nobody could tell why there was nobody in charge of children. He immediately issued a memo to the HoD.
