HC directive on fancy numbers for vehicles

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday said that temporary registration and tax receipt should be produced during allotment of fancy numbers. The court said this while dismissing a petition filed by Biju Mathew, managing director of Mathewsons India Ltd, seeking extension of time to get his vehicle delivered after he won the bid for a fancy number. The petitioner had sought a directive to the Motor Vehicles Department authorities not to allot the number to anybody else. As per the norms, if the vehicle is not produced within 90 days, the bidders need to renew the auction by remitting Rs 2,000.
