Jalna, Maharashta: Human rights activist Teesta Setalvad has demanded that an FIR be lodged against Gujarat Chief Minister Narandra Modi and others in the 2002 Gulbarg Society massacre case in which hundreds of people including
former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri were killed by a rioting mob.
Setlvad, who was here to deliver a lecture, told PTI that the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) has held that Modi had failed to control the communal riots.
Criminal charges should be lodged against the chief minister on the basis of this report, she said.
On the Communal Violence Bill being prepared by the Centre, Setalvad said she has asked the government to re-draft the bill as it had some loopholes and hoped that the government would accept her demand.
She said the aim of the bill is to curb communal riots in the country and a provision had been made in the bill for the Centre's direct interference in riot-affected areas in any part of the country so that paramilitary forces could be deployed if communal violence gets prolonged.
