THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen (KNM) has called for urgent government intervention in the issue of alleged ‘ooruvilakku’ (ostracising) of its followers at Beemappally by the local jamaath. The members of 27 families are passing through several difficulties owing to the ‘ooruvilakku’ by the Beemapally mosque committee, they told a press meet here on Saturday. The committee is denying the right to lead a peaceful life to the families, they said. The families are not given the clearance certificate for marriages. The local shops have been asked not to give employment or goods to the members of the ostracised families. It has also asked the locals not to allow KNM members to attend marriages or funerals. The KNM views praying at dargahs as un-Islamic. However, it does not impose its view on anybody, they said. The KNM leaders alleged that the jama ath committee was functioning like a parallel government. Though they have lodged complaints with the City Police Commissioner no steps were taken to end their ordeal. The KNM requested the champions of human rights and the general public to oppose the discrimination against them.  KNM Salafi Imam A R Al Ameen, KNM Thiruvananthapuram mandalam secretary Naseer Vallakkadavu and unit secretary S Noushad attended the press conference.
