Government move to take over PMC Hospital
Government move to take over PMC Hospital

The state government is planning to take over the Pariyaram Medical College Hospital and bring it under the direct control of the government, according to reliable sources here.

The government move is to take over the PMC through an ordinance.

According to information available here, the existing director-board under the control of the CPM will be dissolved to pave way for handing over the administration to a committee of officials appointed by the government.

There had been several demands from the constituent parties of the UDF including the Congress to take over the administration of the hospital by the government.

A section of the UDF had argued that the hospital administration should be handed over to CMP leader M V Raghavan who was the main architect of the PMC Society.

The huge amount to be spent to repay the loans taken by the PMC Society and the possible legal and political repercussions of taking over its administration were the two main factors that barred the UDF government from taking such a course of action.

The department of co-operation had already conducted a probe into the irregularities in the functioning of the PMC Hospital and the admission of students to the college.

Still, the PMC and its functioning continued to generate controversy always at the time of admissions to various medical courses
