GULBARGA: It’s been two years since then chief minister BS Yeddyurappa announced the formation of an experts’ committee to study the history of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, but the only movement in this regard has been letters from one department to another.Yeddyurappa, in his speech on Hyderabad-Karnataka Liberation Day celebrations on September 17, 2009, besides announcing the formation of the panel under the chairmanship of academician Prof Vasant Kustagi, had also announced the members’ names.Later, then chairman of Nanjundappa Report Implementation Committee Shasil Namoshi wrote to Yeddyurappa on September 22, 2009, reminding him of his announcement.A full year later, under secretary to Education Department (Universities), U B Ulavi issued a government order, dated September 17, 2010, stating that the committee with Prof Kustagi as its chairman had been constituted for an integrated study and to prepare a blueprint for constituting a Hyderabad-Karnataka Study Chair in Gulbarga University. Neither Yeddyurappa nor Namoshi had mentioned anything about the formation of the chair. The order, which asked the committee to submit its report in a month, instructed the Gulbarga regional commissioner to provide infrastructure and to bear the expenses of the panel. The panel too sought facilities. The RC then forwarded the panel’s letter to the principal secretary (Higher Education) on October 25, 2010, seeking Rs 1 crore and asked him to instruct the Registrar of Gulbarga University to provide an advance to help the panel begin work. Registrar Prof S L Hiremath told Express that he had replied that the varsity had no funds to provide the advance.
