'Good Deed': Lucknow Firefighters Carry Out 2-Hour Operation to Rescue A Crow
It took a team of firefighters, a hydraulic crane and a local support to execute the ‘one of its kind’ rescue operation which was launched to rescue an entangled crow.

When a big chunk of Uttar Pradesh’s population was busy in casting vote during the fourth phase of 2024 Lok Sabha Polls on Monday, some firefighters in the state were busy carrying out a crucial ‘crow rescue operation’ at Lucknow’s Latouche Road. It took a team of firefighters, a hydraulic crane and a local support to execute the ‘one of its kind’ rescue operation which was launched to rescue an entangled crow. The two-hour long rescue operation ended successfully as the firefighters freed the crow, fed it biscuit and water before setting it free.

“It was a regular day and then we got a call from a local who hails from Latouche road, Lucknow, informing us about a crow, which she said has been stranded for hours,” said Balbir Singh, lead fireman, who led the operation.

Singh and his team, without giving a second thought, rushed to the spot only to find that the crow was stranded at the top of the tree. But, before the rescue operation could start, the team realised that since the crow was stranded at the top of the tree, it was difficult for the firefighters to climb. “The spot was out of human reach and, hence, we decided to rope in a hydraulic crane to rescue the crow,” said Singh.

The firefighters raised the demand of a hydraulic crane from Aminabad Unit. It took another hour for the fire department’s hydraulic crane to reach the spot after which the crow could be rescued. “It took almost two hours and 30 minutes for us to rescue the crow that was found entangled in a kite flying thread. We fed the crow with a biscuit and water, before setting it free,” he said.

The fire department’s one of its kind rescue operation was appreciated by the locals and the onlookers, who praised the firemen for playing good samaritan. “Indeed it’s a good deed. The crow was stranded for more than 10 hours and, hence, we informed the fire department. It’s kind of them that they did not ignore the call and came out to rescue the poor crow,” said Sudhakar Diwedi, a local who spotted the crow first. Some locals said that initially, they thought that the crow would set itself free but after seeing it stranded for more than 10 hours, they decided to approach the fire department.
