Godhra train burning was not a conspiracy: Bhatt
Activists from all have come together to protect the rights of activists in the country.

New Delhi: Suspended Gujarat IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt has said the Godhra train burning incident could not have been a conspiracy as no one was aware of the return of the train. He claimed that the incident could be called a failure on the intelligence agencies part as even they were unaware of the train's schedule.

"No shot of imagination, Godhra could have been conspiracy because no one was even aware of the return. Not even the intelligence was even aware. So you can call that an intelligence failure," Sanjeev Bhatt said while speaking to social activists.

Bhatt also said that he was well aware of the fact that there is a threat to his life.

Not just Bhatt, many activists campaigning in their respective fields find themselves at the receiving end and like the suspended IPS officer are out on bail. Many of them are fighting battles which are decades old with hardly any solution in sight.

Founder of the APDP in Jammu and Kashmir, Parveena says that intelligence agencies have detained many of the state's youth without providing information of their whereabouts.

"Our children were picked up by agencies. Please ask them where they are," Parveena said.

Irom Sharmilla's Brother Irom Singhjeet said that since his sister's been custody, he's been following her to make sure she's safe.

"Since 2000, she's inside the custody that's why here and there I need to follow her to protect her," Irom Singhjeet said.

Activists from all over the country have come together and formed a platform called Human Rights Defenders Alert India, to cover the rights of those who are unknown to the nation.

"There is a platform called Human Rights Defenders Alert India which has to expand. Not expand to cover people which are visible, it is to cover the rights of a number of thousands of individuals and groups who are invisible," Henry said.

In fact, these activists have an emergency response system to protect those who activists who have been tortured or arrested.

"Whenever any human rights activist is arrested or tortured immediately within 24 hours or as soon as we get the information we have an emergency response," said colin Gonsalves, member of the Human Right Law Network.
