Friday Release: Self destruction of a 'Rockstar'
Nargis Fakhri is 32 and it's a late debut as per the existing conventions but she looks good and classy in teasers.

New Delhi: The 'RA.One' fever has come down and film enthusiasts are waiting for another high profile film in the shape of 'Rockstar'. The promotional drive is almost over and it has created quite a big buzz in the market.

A lot has been said about the preparations and strategies that the actors have adopted to make the film believable and true to life but the real test is not very far now.

Janardhan Jakhar is a Jat boy from Pitampura in Delhi who might look plain from outside but the desires he is nurturing in heart are way too difficult by any standard.

Jakhar's simplicity almost touches stupidity which eventually leads him to believe that a solid heartbreak is the foremost necessity to become a good singer rather a rockstar.

Having American poet Jim Morrison as idol, Janardhan sets his eyes on Heer Kaul, a stunning flawless beauty, with the naïve idea of receiving a serious heartbreak.

On the other hand Heer Kaul, played by model turned actress Nargis Fakhri, finds the idiocy of Janardhan Jakhar the only way to satisfy her wild side. Heer wants to tear away the veil of conventions and wants to experience everything before she gets trapped in boring domestic life cycle.

Heer accepts Jakhar's proposal of being his girlfriend and the two set out for a wild time together. Heer does all the things she ever wanted to do with Janardhan but the much awaited heartbreak happens eventually.

Janardhan Jakhar becomes a famous singer Jordan but the life has taken his soulful heart in the barter.

The campus fool graduates to the international stage but his heart is shattered forever.

Imtiaz Ali has a good track record and he is fast emerging as a director whose hand is placed at the correct position on urban youth's pulse. Ali's first film 'Socha Na Tha' had not worked at the box office but his handling of love in modern times was quite mature. He is one storyteller who does not want to showcase love as something which is more important than ambitions of life. But at the same time Imtiaz tells the audiences about the futility of achieving goals without loved ones by your side.

'Jab We Met' and 'Love Aaj Kal' were light hearted but very deep in impact. It's true that the days are gone when failing in love meant attempted suicides or murders but the ever elusive love is still as complex as then.

The new found economic independence and take it easy attitude have not yet replaced the need of one soulmate and Imtiaz focuses on this point only.

Probably this is the reason behind choosing characters from more opened up societies where people can meet each other easily even without being in a relationship.

Imtiaz creates drama through situations where characters don't want to accept the reality due to the fear of losing freedom.

Shammi Kapoor will be seen as Ustad Jameel Khan in the film who spots Janardhan's raw talent initially. It would be a cherished moment for all the Shammi Kapoor fans as the late actor will appear for the last time on the silver screen.

Aditi Rao Hyadri will also be seen in an important role in 'Rockstar'. She will be playing a journalist who has followed Jordan since his struggling days.

'Rockstar' as the names suggests is a musical journey and thus the music needs to compliment the story but without being overdone. A R Rahman's songs have become the chartbusters and 'Sadda Haq' is viewed as the inception of hard rock in Hindi films. 'Katiya Karoon' also has a very rustic Punjabi feel to it. 'Kun Faye Kun' and 'Tum Ko' are liked by the listeners but overall the song 'Sadda Haq' is the only song to look forward to.

'Rockstar' is definitely not the best A R Rahman album but he has managed to come up with better than average songs.

Nargis Fakhri is 32 and it's a late debut as per the existing conventions but she looks good and classy in teasers. Her future will depend on the success of the film.

'Rockstar' is a big film for Ranbir Kapoor also and it would be interesting to see how he carries the burden of an eccentric character.

What's your reaction?
