COIMBATORE: The Friday clash at the government law college must serve as a wake up call for the officials to step in and restore the sanctity of education institutions before it is too late, say a cross section of people here. From burning the nation’s flag on the college campus to staging frequent road blocks, the unruly behaviour of law college students has been hitting the news for wrong reasons.Sympathisers say only serious steps could put an end to this problem.“Law college students are always known for their activism and raising their cause for different social and political issues. But the present incident is unfortunate. This has completely degraded the reputation of the law college,” says a senior advocate and a former student of the college. The police officials say without instructions of higher authorities in the government it is impossible for them to take legal action against those students who create trouble. “If we arrest one student, then their colleagues in law colleges across the State may resort to violence,” said a senior police officer. Members of the Police say that the city advocates must play an active role in restoring the dignity of their alma mater.
