French Open: Sania in second round
Sania Mirza has cruised into the second round of the French Open after defeating Alberta Brianti of Italy.

New Delhi: Sania Mirza has started her French Open campaign with a sparkling 6-1, 6-1 win over Alberta Brianti of Italy. The World No. 50, who had lost in the first round of both her previous tournaments since returning from injury, showed the spark of old, winning in just 52 minutes.

Sania didn't show any nerves in her first match at Roland Garros. The 20-year-old looked in complete control against her Italian opponent winning her first game with a trademark forehand which Brianti was unable to return.

Mirza conceded her only game in the first set with an unforced error but marched on with supreme confidence to take the first set easily 6-1, in just 25 minutes.

The second set was a similar tale as Sania got an early beak with a powerful forehand down the line winner.

And within minutes, a long rally saw Mirza go 4-0 up.

Brianti did hold on to her serve in a hopelessly one-sided contest to win the fifth game.

But Sania wanted to finish it off in style, leaving no chance for her opponent ranked 37 places below her. A forehand winner sealed the match.

Sania meets Ana Ivanovic of Serbia in the second round.
