SAMBALPUR: Even as the State Government has introduced token system to minimise the role of middlemen and agents in paddy procurement, farmers of Sambalpur have rejected it. The token system has been introduced this kharif season for informing the farmers about the quantity of paddy to be procured and the date of procurement. The farmers protested when regulated market committee (RMC) officials visited different market yards and purchasing centres on Monday for distributing tokens. They said the token system would further delay the process. They alleged that the Government introduced the token system without any prior discussion with them. The administration has this time decided to procure paddy through 23 market yards and RMC purchasing centres in the district.
