Extending plans to reach out to prospective IT companies, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy unrolled the strengths and opportunities Kerala holds for them, in front of industry honchos in Bengaluru on Saturday.
“You are welcome to set up shop in more than 20 existing and planned technology hubs throughout the state, where all facilities will be provided,” he said.
At a road show, organised as part of the Emerging Kerala-2012 campaign in India’s ‘Silicon Valley’, Chandy had discussions with the representatives of IT heavyweights including IBM and Dell, technical training specialist NTTF and other leading companies such as Taegu Tec India and Jubilant Life Sciences, who have shown interest in starting new ventures in the state.
Speaking to business leaders at the interactive sessions and B2G meets held as part of the road show, Chandy said that the Government had acquired nearly 1,600 acres of land for setting up IT centres across the state. Facilities already existing are being expanded, he said.
The Chief Minister assured IT firms that companies would be provided with a host of facilities for running a successful business. Besides IT, which has been identified as a key driver of future economic growth, the Government will also give thrust to basic infrastructure development and manufacturing, the Chief Minister said. He emphasised that sustainability will be the core of all new projects and special attention will be given to eco-friendly and non-pollutant industries.
“We want development and conservation to go hand-in-hand. Our development endeavours may benefit the current generation, but we need to safeguard the environment for the generations to come,” he said. The message the Government wants to convey through the Emerging Kerala-2012 summit is that the state is ready for investments, he added.
Industries and IT Minister P K Kunhalikutty, who was also part of the Kerala team, said that creating and nurturing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) was vital for achieving faster and more inclusive growth. The long-term aim is to transform Kerala from a wage-earning society to an entrepreneurial society, he said.
“The government recognises the strategic importance of Information & Communication Technology as a key component of its development agenda. The Kerala IT Policy thus aims to create a knowledge-based economy with global opportunities and position ‘IT@Kerala’ as the most preferred IT&ITES investment destination in India,” Kunhalikutty said.
