GULBARGA: To become a ‘Celebrity Writer’ it is not necessary to write only in English, said noted playwright Girish Karnad, also a recipient of the Jnanpith Award. Participating in ‘Meet the Author Programme’ organised by School of Humanities and Languages of Central University of Karnataka here on Friday, Karnad said that if a write up (in any language) touches the mass, the writer is a ‘Celebrity Writer’. Kannada language is the best example in this case as it had many such celebrated writers and the language bagged eight Jnanpith Awards, Karnad said. Answering a question, he said that a writer should take care of his creativity and he must try to protect the writer within him. He should not get lost his fighting, even if it may be for a noble cause, he added. Plays dealing with social issues were boring to him because he as a playwright was never interested in such issues. Karnad said he was happy with domestic plays. He read out some parts of his recently published autobiography ‘Aadaata Ayushya’ on the same occasion. V-C of Central University of Karnataka Prof A M Pathan presided over the function.
