CHENNAI: The All-India Loco Running Staff Association (AILRSA) has dismissed the theory that the use of emergency brake caused the Kalka-Howrah train crash. According to a press release, Geomy George, general secretary, AILRSA, south zone, the RDSO, the research wing of the Railways, after elaborate study issued a circular which said that emergency brakes will not cause a train to derail and drivers should not hesitate to apply emergency brakes when required.He further said, new gadgets like the ACD (Anti-Collision Device), TPWS (Train Protection Warning System) resort to application of emergency brakes to ensure safety, when it senses emergency situations. In such a scenario, the provision of emergency brake, which is for emergency purpose, is not detrimental to safety, he added. “Hence, our association concludes that application of emergency brakes would not cause accidents and the railway should go to the bottom of the truth to find out the real cause of accident,” Geomy George said.Meanwhile, the association conducted its zonal meeting at Tiruchy on Monday to condole the demise of passengers onboard Kalka Mail at Malwan station on July 10.
