EC to reach out to voters through mobiles

SANGAREDDY: In tune with the fast changing world, the Election Commission (EC) has decided to make use of the cell phones to reach the voters.The commission, which has been using the print and electronic media so far, will soon be disseminating poll information directly to the voters through their cell phones.This decision was taken in view of the extensive use of mobiles by the people.The commission has decided to give info about the election dates, polling booths, rules and regulations of the commission apart from other advice relating to revision of voters list through mobile .The EC officials said they had sent SMSes on election info to voters during bypolls held in some places in the country recently and that the results were overwhelming.Following this, the EC has decided to collect mobile phone numbers of the voters during the voter list revision process to be taken up across the country from Nov 1.As part of the programme, officials in all villages, in Medak district, will make a draft declaration of the voters list on Oct 31.
