Durga suspension: SC to hear plea seeking contempt action against govt
The plea states that she was only acting on the SC's orders to prevent unauthorised construction of religious buildings on public land.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday will take up a plea filed by advocate ML Sharma seeking contempt action against the UP government and CM Akhilesh Yadav for suspending IAS officer Durga Nagpal. The plea contends that the officer was only acting on the Supreme Court's orders to preventing unauthorised construction of religious buildings on public land.

Earlier on Friday, the Supreme Court dismissed a PIL filed by Sharma, challenging the suspension of IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal by the Uttar Pradesh government. While dismissing the plea, the bench headed by Justice HL Dutta said that Durga can take care of herself and can question the order of the Chief Minister in an appropriate forum.

"The moment she approaches the court, we will hear her plea and we may pass an interim order," the bench said.

Contending that the action taken against Nagpal was arbitrary, unconstitutional and malafide, the PIL had sought quashing of all proceedings against the 2010 batch IAS officer who had clamped down on the mining mafia in Gautam Budh Nagar area of UP.
