12 sailors were rescued by a ship which happened to be in the area.
New Delhi: Dubai-bound ship Saraya sank in Iranian territorial waters on Wednesday morning. While 12 sailors have been rescued, five others - all Indians - are still reported to be missing.
The 12 sailors were rescued by another ship which happened to be passing by in the area.
One of the sailors, Ishant Sharma's family wrote in to ibnlive.com saying that the Dubai Coast Guard had not been able to trace any of the five Indians as yet.
The cargo ship - which was carrying a Panama flag and 3,000 tonnes of cement and was expected to reach Dubai on Thursday - sank at around 09:00 hrs Iran time.
The company that owns the cargo ship and the Dubai coastal guard have sent two barrages to lift the ship which is still half-submerged.
