Mumbai: Costume designer Manish Malhotra, who has styled all the stars of Karan Johar's films says he's turned Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee and the rest of the cast into typical New Yorkers with some fancy cuts.
From the time Manish Malhotra interpreted Karan Johar's version of the Archie comics in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, he changed the way audiences looked at clothes and Hindi cinema.
From Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham to Kal Ho Na Ho, his stamp on Karan Johar's movies in respect to clothes and the way people dress has been indelible.
In Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Manish Malhotra brings a new flavour like in the uncoordinated chic clothes of Preity Zinta.
"Preity has a classic sensibility. She is young, mature and that shows in her clothes," says the designer.
Then there is the grunge meets sport appeal in Shah Rukh Khan's jackets and sweat shirts, whereas Rani's is an all sober style.
"Shah Rukh has been given a very grungy look with patched jackets while Rani's character's finicky mind is reflected in her clothes. Her skirts are A-lined, her clothes streamlined and coordinated," explains Malhotra.
And Abhishek Bachchan is Manhattan cool.
"Abhishek plays a media guy. Savvy, smart, a very Manhattan look. We got lots of suits made for him, with coloured insides."
After the librarian chic of Kal Ho Na Ho took audiences by storm, this film is set to create new visions of elegance in KANK.
