HYDERABAD: Donate a book, make a difference. Difference for the better in a child’s life. Orange Leaf, a student-run NGO, has set out to do exactly this to help underprivileged kids get access to comics, science texts and the like. The NGO has been organising book donation camps in schools across the city and has managed to collect 400 books to date. “We have made use of 300 of those books to set up a library at an orphanage at the RTC X roads,” says G Varsha, Orange Leaf president and student of the Chinmaya Vidayala. The budding NGO received a shot in the arm on Thursday with the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) lending a helping hand. At a book donation camp organised jointly by both, FAPCCI president VS Raju donated books to Orange Leaf. Speaking on the occasion, he pointed out that the desired change in the lives of the underprivileged children will come only when the more privileged section adopts a proactive approach. “The only way to ensure a better future for these children is by educating them,” he felt and appreciated the student-run NGO and its president for their dedicated service to the underprivileged children. The donated books are meant for students from Class I to X. Orange Leaf also holds reading sessions at various orphanages in the city for the benefit of the inmates. But it’s not all about books alone. The students have gone a step further and are also holding classes to impart basic computer skills to the less privileged children. The NGO is at present involved with three homes for children in the city, Joy Home, Prem Sadan and Rainbow.
