These vested interests are behind the filing of a case in the High Court alleging irregularities in the functioning of the whole-body scanner installed at the hospital. They had also alleged that the District Panchayat was utilising the profit earned from the service for other purposes. He said that the Rs 1.4-crore whole-body scanner project was part of the District Panchayat’s efforts to provide scanning services to the public at reasonable rates. There is a shortage of staff at the scanning centre and the monitoring committee is utilising the profit to pay remuneration to the staff appointed on contract basis. He said that the District Panchayat would go in appeal against the High Court ruling assigning the District Collector to restructure the rates at the scanning centre. Flaying the District Collector’s decision to reduce the rates fixed by the District Panchayat, he said that it was an intrusion into the powers of the local body.
