A day after Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni resigned as brand ambassador of realty firm Amrapali, official documents reveal that his wife Sakshi Dhoni is still associated with the group.
Documents accessed by CNN-IBN show that Sakshi Dhoni is a director at Amrapali Mahi Developers Private Limited. Amrapali CMD Anil Kumar Sharma said the firm is involved in running a hospital and a charity in Dhoni's home state Jharkhand.
Speaking exclusively to CNN-IBN, Anil Sharma, CMD of Amrapali Group said, "Dhoni did send a message that we should fulfil our promise and it wrong to blame Dhoni. There is no such rule in our country where brand ambassadors can be held responsible."
"Sakshi is part of charity's operations and we have told registrar of company that we are winding up business and she is no longer director. She has nothing to do with real estate business", he added.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that Sakshi is likely to opt out of the Board of Directors from Amrapali group.
Dhoni quit after the residents claimed that civil and electrical work at the first phase of project Sapphire at Noida Sector 45 was not completed though 800 families had already moved in.
Later Dhoni said that he would take up the matter with the builder and it must deliver on its promises. "If you see the economy, it is quite tough for the builder as of now. But at the same time, whatever is promised, I think it needs to be met," he had said.
His statement came just a few days after residents of a housing society in Noida took to social media asking Dhoni to disassociate himself as Amrapali's brand ambassador, forcing the company to promise completion of pending work at the project.
The residents said they were forced to tag Dhoni on Twitter with #AmrapaliMisuseDhoni as the Amrapali management was not listening to their complaints.
