THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With just a few days left for the big day, the Valiyamala campus of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is abuzz with preparations for its annual cultural fest, Dhanak, to be held from September 30 to October 3.The run-up to Dhanak has charged up all students and various events have already started.While the informal ‘Texas Hold ’em Poker’ is nearing its final rounds, ‘Street Soccer’ is in its preliminary rounds.‘Gully cricket’, a popular event of the fest where girls rule the pitch, has also begun.‘Call of Booty’, the treasure hunt, is beginning on September 23.Campus decoration has been given special attention.The artists of IIST have put their fire and imagination into paintings and other contemporary art masterpieces which will be showcased at different places on the campus.A highly awaited piece is a variant of ‘The Last Supper’ to be put up near the food court.Among the contests, solo and duet singing, band and instrumental music competitions fall into the music category, while the dance section consists of solo, group dance and mime.Apart from the general quiz, a travel and business quiz, animation quiz and a cinema quiz are being organised.A ‘Whacky Photographer’ event will be held, apart from the professional photography and short film-making competitions for the amateur but original and creative photographers.The art section, apart from the usual painting and sketching competitions, is hosting a T-shirt and jeans painting as well as a junk art competition.For more information, log on to www.dhanak.co.in or go to the fan page of Dhanak: http://www.facebook.com/Dhanak.IIST
